The Weser lighter from 1906 was put into service as a church 70 years ago and is Germany's only floating church in this form as the "River Boatmen's Church". In 2007, a sponsoring association of the river boatmen's church took over the nave as a permanent loan with the task of preserving the "Flusi" as a church place for the city of Hamburg, its citizens and the port of Hamburg. Every week between Easter and Advent, a team of volunteers drives our 79-year-old barge JOHANN HINRICH WICHERN to the Hamburg port area and visits barge operators and crews at their workplace. Service takes place twice a month on the 2nd & 4th Sunday at 3 p.m., whereby the service on the fourth Sunday is in "Plattdeutsch"!
