Ala Savashevich solveiga gutaute wpływ / impact2021–2022 ludzie, włosy, uczucia / human, hair, feelingsinspirują nas ludzie, których spotykamy. prawda? podczas kwarantanny przez długi czas nie czułam obecności drugiego człowieka, byłam z tego powodu smutna. zrozumiałam, jak ważne jest dzielenie się pomysłami z innymi. krótka wymiana zdań może spowodować zmianę w życiu. inspiracja przychodzi zwykle od obcych, rzadziej od znajomych. nazywam to współpracą. częścią mojego projektu są również włosy. w mitologii, historii, także w litewskiej mitologii, włosy symbolizują siłę, energię. prosiłam ludzi o pasmo włosów. oni mi je dawali. jestem im za to wdzięczna. ich otwartość wobec mnie była dla mnie natchnieniem. dzielenie się ze mną fragmentem własnego ciała było działaniem bardzo delikatnym, wręcz intymnym. nosiłam pasma przez pół roku, aż same odpadły. bez pożegnania.all the people that are around you, inspire you. do you agree? during quarantine, i didn't feel any human presence for a long time and it made me sad. i understood the importance of sharing your ideas with others. a short conversation can inspire you to change something in your life. most of the time inspiration comes from strangers rather than your friends. i call it collaboration. another part of my project is hair. in mythology, history and in lithuanian mythology hair represents power, energy. i've asked people around me to share their hair strands with me. they gave me them. i am very grateful for it. i'm very inspired that they were so open to me. it was a very delicate and intimate act to share a part of their body with me. i had been wearing it for a half year till the moment the dread fell off. without a special goodbye.   Solveiga Gutaute tomas andrijauskas bez tytułu/ untitled2021 fotografia/ photography Tomas Andrijauskas julija pociūtė mapa / map2022 stary papier kreślarski, ołówek / vintage chart paper, pencil   Julija Pociūtė “it’s like sitting at the... “it’s like sitting at the dentist’s—it’s unpleasant, but tolerable”—these words i heard the last time we spoke. i don’t find sitting at the dentist’s unpleasant, but in my mind i could position myself into the dentist’s chair and imagine the sharp brightness of the lamp squeezing into my eyes. i try to imagine myself into the sound of the drill, into the smell of sterile medical tools and the body of the dentist themself close to my forehead. when i created the video the opposites in 2014, i thought of the paradox of technology, created to protect life and to take life. birth, life and death are the most opposite that can be, and the cause for both is human-created technology. but can techno- logy be opposite? can the letters and languages be opposite? can culture and history be opposite as well? i can imagine myself in your comparison to the dentists, but i can’t relate to the unpleasantness of this experience. i can imagine myself in the situation of waiting for the instrument being pulled out of my tooth. but imaginary unpleasantness has nothing to do with the real, though i think i understand what you mean. if technology is operated by humans and causes unpleasantness, maybe it would be for the better if the humans were operated by technology? the technolo- gies are not opposite at all, just like culture, alphabets and words - there is always a human behind the technology: behind the one that treats and the one that kills. there is a human behind the culture, the alphabets, the words, the languages. i want to maneuver ourselves into a world where the opposites dissolve, where no other exists, but instead everybody is treated as us. my reflexive painting depicts the lonely shoes—the remaining items, set free of their owners, who, as myself, can’t imagine what is to be there, and never reaching their new owners, who are there currently. the lonely shoes enter my performance, they enter my story, in the same way as the words “it’s like sitting at the dentists—it’s unpleasant, but tolerable”. if humans were us and no technology was opposite—what then could be? could then be no there and here?reflexive painting embodies the situatedness in the present moment and from this moment touching the colours and creating the image as the immediate feedback from thought-in-the-realtime. reflexive pain- ting is, in a way, like words, but instead of speaking the thought and experience, i paint. i revisit my video the opposites, with love for every human life and my reflection-in-ac- tion. while i paint, my luggage is an experience from my journey of the last twelve years, through art education, the nordic and baltic countries, people, languages and worlds. these worlds, i believe, can co-exist as the multiplicity of heres and theres with no opposites to emerge. in the last two months and a half common ground for me has become pluriversal common ground, with the hope for no opposites and no other to be addressed ever so. the pluriverse is the world where many worlds can co-exist. we are not leaving, coming or migrating—we are being and becoming.   “It’s like sitting at the... andrius grigalaitis mgła. Julija Pociūtė andrii dostliev Żółty portret #1 (galeria nieznanych ukraińskich działaczek i działaczy kultury)yellow portrait #1 (gallery of unknown ukrainian cultural actors)2022 technika mieszana / mixed mediazanim armia rosyjska wycofała się z nowego bykiwa, wsi położonej 100 km na wschód od kijowa, żołnierze stacjonujący w miejscowej szkole zamazali portery ukraińskich pisarzy żółtą farbą w spreju. drobny akt wandalizmu w porównaniu z okrucieństwami popełnionymi (cały czas popełnianymi) na okupowanych terenach ukraińskich – jednak ten symboliczny gest doskonale wpisuje się w próby niszczenia ukraińskiej kultury, od wieków podejmowane przez rosję. w prezentowanej serii świadomie zawłaszczam ten pełen agresji gest, aby stworzyć galerię portretów kobiet i mężczyzn, którzy – jeśli nie padliby ofiarą imperialistycznej przemocy – staliby się ważnymi działaczkami i działaczami kultury.before the russian army retreated from novyi bykiv, a village some 100 kilometres east of kyiv, its soldiers stationed in a local school had covered the portraits of ukrainian writers with yellow spray paint. a minor act of vandalism compared to all the atrocities they were (and still are) committing all over the occupied ukrainian territories – and yet a symbolic gesture that fits perfectly into the pattern of the centuries-long russian attempts to destroy ukrainian culture. in this series of works, i’m consciously appropriating their aggressive gesture to create a gallery of portraits depicting women and men who could have become our prominent cultural actors but instead became victims of imperialistic violence. is a comment on the nature of visuality. i decided to include aurora as the co-creator of this painting. the lunar calendar shows the moon’s positions during one month and represents the female nature of the time measuring process, connected to the fertility cycle. the passive house and the tesla electric car are ultraeco versions of ways for the future.   Sylwia Gorak, Aurora Borealis wiola betonowy plac oraz fajansu. fajans miał swoją świetność w czasach prl-u, gdy był ogromną fabryką zatrudniającą setki pracowników. po transformacji fabryka upadła, aby odrodzić się w formie prywatnej, małej manufaktury. od 2020 roku wiola pracuje nad projektem kobiety z fabryki fajansu, w którym opowiada historie pracownic fabryki. w roku 2021 dołączyła do projektu karolina majewska-güde, badaczka sztuki oraz kuratorka. w ramach projektu wiola pracuje w malarni fabryki fajansu i maluje fabryczne historie, głównie na talerzach i wazonach zwanych popularnie wickami. „wicki” są oryginalną formą włocławską z czasach prl-u, ale obecnie są także wręczane na specjalne okazje, takie jak awans, nagroda, odejście na emeryturę, wyjątkowe rocznice. sama forma jest bezużyteczna – ciężko cokolwiek przechowywać w „wicku” i do złudzenia przypomina on urny na prochy zmarłych. swoją smukłością przypomina także słup, a w obecnej sytuacji geopolitycznej i narracji publicznej słowo słup szybko łączy się ze słowem granica. zatem wicek pogranicznik jest słupem – to kruchy, reprezentacyjny symbol. ceramikę łatwo stłuc –wazon stojący obok drzwi buduje sytuację pełną napięcia, podobnie jak sytuacja na granicy. wicek pogranicznik ii pokazuje hipokryzję obecnej sytuacji na wschodnich granicach polski – część granicy jest oddzielona murem z drutem kolczastym, a część otwarta – ale też tylko dla wybranych. tak jak do naszego stołu zapraszamy tylko gości podobnych do nas.wiola ujazdowska grew up in włocławek which is known for its dam, the transformation of the old market square that used to be full of flowers into a concrete square, and its faience. in its heyday in the polish people’s republic, faience was a large factory with hundreds of workers. the system transformation brought its collapse, and finally the factory was reborn as a small private company. since 2020, wiola has been carrying out a project called kobiety z fabryki fajansu [women from the faience factory], relating the stories of female workers. in 2021, karolina majewska-güde, an art researcher and curator, joined the project. within its framework, wiola works in the decoration workshop painting stories from the factory, predominantly on plates and vases which are commonly known as wicki. a unique form from the włocławek plant back in the days of the polish people’s republic, today wicki are popularly given as gifts at such occasions as getting promotion, receiving an award, going into retirement, or special anniversaries. the vessel itself is rather useless – it doesn’t make a good container and it looks like an urn for the ashes of a cremated person. being slim, it also looks like a post, and in the current geopolitical situation and related public comments the word ‘post’ gets connected with the word ‘border’ in no time at all. as a consequence, wicek the border guard is a post – a fragile representational symbol. ceramics break easily – located by the door, the vase generates tension, bringing to mind the situation at the border. wicek the border guard ii reveals the hypocrisy of the current state of affairs at the eastern border of poland – part of it is protected by a jak poruszać się w przestrzeni za pomocą dźwięków z zasłoniętymi oczami? jak poczuć obrazy, nie widząc ich ani nie dotykając, po prostu dzięki energii, którą posiadają. moje działanie jest swoistym hołdem dla tej wystawy i wyrazem jej głębokiego odczuwania.a vocal performance based on acoustics, echolocation and application of the properties of sound in the exhibition space called the “church”. sean scully’s paintings from the doric series and the specific interior of the “church” inspired my deep contemplation on the nature of para-sacred phenomena in art. can we perceive art as part of the sacred as it is today? the “don't touch” sign acquires a new meaning in this context. how to move in a space with sound as the only guide, with your eyes covered? how to feel paintings without seeing or touching them, just through the energy they possess. my action is a homage to this exhibition and an expression of my great recognition of it.   Sylwia Gorak julija pociūtė julija pociūtė - moja naturalnym był tematem rozważań naukowych od starożytności, jednak wzrastająca w ostatnich dekadach świadomość katastrofy ekologicznej przyczyniła się do tego, że zasugerowano, iż główną przyczynę niezrównoważonego rozwoju stanowi rozłam między społeczeństwami a środowiskiem naturalnym (np. pyle 1993; folke et al. 2011; dorninger et al. 2017).” prace te składają się z organicznych obiektów zebranych przez uczestników wycieczki do wulkanu, podczas której między człowiekiem a naturą wytworzyła się intuicyjna relacja. obiekty oraz ich zbieranie stały się tłem dyskusji o doświadczonych i niedoświadczonych powiązaniach natury z naszym wnętrzem. instalacja powstała z prac flagi modlitewne i mapy odnosi się do obserwowanego dzisiaj przejścia od nieustających wyzwań związanych z ekologią, z którymi musi się mierzyć ludzkość, do tematyki wojennej. wojna spowodowała wzrost nakładów na bezpieczeństwo w państwach na całym świecie, a problemy ekologiczne odsunięto na dalszy plan. zwiększone nakłady na bezpieczeństwo ograniczyły możliwości globalnej współpracy w celu rozwiązywania problemów klimatycznych. niniejsza praca stanowi refleksję dotyczącą kwestii znajdujących się na wspólnej płaszczyźnie porozumienia na wszystkich.julija pociūtė - my installation starts with the artworks monuments of momental connection, based on the research of the theory of rethinking relationships between nature – and human nature. “humanity’s relationship to the natural world has been a topic of scholarship since ancient times, yet with growing recognition of environmental crises over the past decades, society’s disconnection from nature has been proposed as a root cause of unsustainability (e.g., pyle 1993; folke et al. 2011; dorninger et al. 2017).” these works contain organic objects collected by persons taking part in a volcano walk, where an intuitive relationship was established between them and nature. the objects and the act of their collection become the background for a discussion about experienced and inexperienced connections between nature and one’s inner self. the installation unfolds with the works prayer flags and map, commenting on the transition from ongoing ecological challenges faced by humanity today to the topic of war. the war has caused an increase in national security budgets across the globe, while ecological problems have been put aside. the increased security budgets lessened the possibilities of global collaboration to solve ecological problems. the artwork offers a reflection on the common ground issue which we share today.   Julija
