Union Pacific Big Mike 2295

Built in 1920, Union Pacific No. 2295 is a powerful 2-8-2 “Mikado” steam locomotive known locally as Big Mike. For decades, it hauled heavy freight across the Union Pacific network and was among the last steam locomotives operating regularly in southern Idaho. After retirement in 1959, Big Mike was preserved by Boise and eventually moved beside the Boise Depot in 2007. Today, it remains an impressive symbol of Boise’s railroad heritage.
