The 1906 Weser lighter was commissioned as a church 70 years ago, making it Germany's only floating church in this form, known as the "River Boatmen's Church." In 2007, a support association of the River Boatmen's Church took the nave on permanent loan with the mission of preserving the "Flusi" as a place of worship for the city of Hamburg. Every week between Easter and Advent, a team of volunteers sails our 79-year-old barge, the JOHANN HINRICH WICHERN, to the Hamburg harbor area and visits bargemen and crews at their workplaces. Services are held twice a month, on the 2nd and 4th Sundays, at 3:00 p.m., with the service on the fourth Sunday being held in Low German.
