Viña Ruda Wineries
Birth of a Vision: A Brief History of the Winery
Viña Ruda is a relatively young winery, whose construction began in 2006. Despite its recent establishment, it has achieved notable recognition in just a couple of harvest seasons, quickly establishing itself in the sector. This rapid rise to global status, especially for a winery with such a short history, underscores that its success is not based solely on time, but on a highly effective combination of innovative product development and exceptional quality. The winery is located in Tomelloso, Ciudad Real, a region that is part of the Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla Designation of Origin. Viña Ruda's ability to achieve such a prominent position in a short period of time demonstrates an ambitious vision and dynamic execution, making it a fascinating case study for those interested in the evolution of the wine industry. This dynamism and ability to disrupt the market with a unique value proposition make the winery particularly compelling for a virtual tour, highlighting how innovation can redefine the traditional landscape.
Our Distinctive Wines: A Palette of Flavors
Viña Ruda's wine range focuses on its "infusion wines," recognized as the first in the world to use this technique. Among its most notable creations are: - Ruda Infusión (Red): Made with 100% Tempranillo grapes, this wine is distinguished by its bright cherry red color, a high aromatic intensity with notes of red fruits, and a pleasant and warm mouthfeel. - Ruda Casual (White): Produced from the Airén variety, this white wine has a pale yellow color, clean and bright. On the nose, it displays an elegant and intense aroma of white and tropical fruit, culminating in a fresh, silky, and long palate. It is also known as "Flower Wine." - Ruda Airén Fermentado en Barrica (White): A white wine that has undergone a barrel fermentation process. - Ruda Cardinal (Red): A special red, nicknamed "The Wine of Women." - Ruda Ensamblaje (Red): A carefully balanced blend of 85% Tempranillo and 15% Syrah. - Viña Ruda Syrah 2012: A limited edition of only 9,000 bottles, this Syrah is characterized by its intense cherry red color, purple reflections and balsamic and toasted notes derived from its aging. The main grape varieties grown by the winery are Tempranillo, Syrah and Airén.
Our Terroir and Facilities: Where the Magic Is Born
Viña Ruda's facilities are a testament to its modern vision and ambition. The winery covers over 7,000 m² of space and boasts 15 hectares of its own vineyards. These facilities are considered "the most advanced in the entire region," with modern warehouses dedicated to winemaking, aging, and bottling. The combination of a relatively young winery, founded in 2006, with such a large and advanced infrastructure suggests a considerable initial investment and a clear strategy for high-tech and efficient production from the outset.
The Art of "Infused Wines": Our Unique Signature
The heart of Viña Ruda's distinction lies in its revolutionary "Infusion Wines" process, a technique that is the result of three years of intensive research and development (R&D+i). This pioneering method involves extracting the grape skins from the must, encapsulating them in a stainless steel column through which the must-wine is passed. The scientific rigor of this process is backed by collaboration with prestigious Spanish academic institutions, such as the University of Castilla-La Mancha, the University of Navarra, and the Aroma and Oenology Analysis Laboratory of the University of Zaragoza. The result of this innovative technique is "highly aromatic, delicate on the palate, and wonderfully modern" wines, characterized by a "powerful aromatic profile and à la carte structure." The ability to achieve "à la carte structure" through the infusion process implies exceptional control over the wine's final profile. In traditional winemaking, structure (tannins, body, acidity) is largely determined by the grape variety, terroir, and conventional maceration time. However, at Viña Ruda, the ability to fine-tune these elements, controlling the interaction with the skins, is a level of refinement that distinguishes its wines.
