Parliament of the Canary Islands

The building of the Parliament of the Canary Islands was designed in 1883 by the architect Manuel de Oraá and since then it has housed different institutions and fundamental entities in the political and cultural development of the region. Since it was built as the headquarters of the "Santa Cecilia" Musical Society until its current use as Parliament of the Canary Islands, it has served as a meeting place for the representatives of the Provincial Council, the members of the Commonwealth of Cabildos of the Archipelago and the magistrates of the audience.

In December 1982 the Provisional Parliament of the Canary Islands was installed in this building, sharing the space with the Conservatory of Music. Over the next two years the Conservatory would gradually abandon the premises it still occupied. This situation is maintained until the building becomes the definitive and exclusive headquarters of the Parliament of the Canary Islands. To face its new tasks, it has undergone numerous renovations that have always cared for and enhanced the historical and artistic aspects of the headquarters of the Autonomous Chamber.
