La Villa Church
Architecture
Externally the church appears sober in late Gothic style and has a simple façade with a central oculus. Next to it stands a high spire-shaped bell tower. Internally there is a single aisle. The apse has three sides and is surmounted by a barrel vault with lunettes and ribs, decorated with mortar. From the 19th century the interior furnishings were replaced and adapted to the taste and needs of the time. The paintings on the ceiling, dating back to 1897, are works by Johann Matthias Pescoller dating back to his youth. The side altars stand out for their marked Tuscan Gothic style.
Johann Matthias Pescoller
Johann Matthias Pescoller (Also Peskoller. Born 15 May 1875. Died 19 June 1951) worked as a fresco artist and restorer based in Bolzano since the late 1800s. His fresco works and works restored by him are found in the neighboring mountain areas between Alto Adige and Veneto. The Pescoller family has continued the tradition down the generations and still runs a well-known restoration laboratory in Bolzano.
