Wolves Den Hub - Innovation Alley

This dynamic area of Innovation Alley is equipped with cutting-edge technology to inspire creativity and collaboration. It features 3D printers for bringing designs to life, two recording booths for music composition and podcasting, a game development studio and collaborative spaces for group projects and innovation.This space empowers students to explore their creativity, develop technical skills and turn their ideas into reality.

Gym 1

Gym 1 is the heart of WIC's physical education and athletics, serving as the primary space for PE classes, home games and tournaments. Learning Commons

Step into the Learning Commons, a vibrant space designed for discovery, focus and creativity. This multi-purpose area houses the school library and the Cub Cave, offering students a calm attitude to engage in their studies, explore new ideas, or take a well-deserved break.The library is a treasure trove of resources, with our Learning Commons Facilitator ready to help students uncover books they love or provide guidance for their academic projects.The adjoining Cub Cave is a sanctuary for mindfulness and self-care, where students can recharge, reflect, or find a moment of peace amidst a busy day.For a playful twist, the Learning Commons also features an eye-catching aquarium and an interactive LEGO wall, adding a splash of fun to this dynamic environment.

Drama Production Posters

The posters lining the walls are professionally photographed and designed to showcase WIC’s drama productions. Each one captures the essence of the performance, creating a visual experience that celebrates the creativity and dedication of our students.

Grade 12 Lounge

Located at the top of the stairs, this bright, welcoming space is exclusively for our Grade 12 students - a place where they can study, collaborate, enjoy meals, or simply relax. It's a special area just for them to unwind and connect during their final year at WIC.

The Prestigious Alumni Awards (PAA) honour WIC alumni who have demonstrated excellence and made significant contributions in their personal and professional lives. Greenhouse

Just outside the Main Entrance, our 40-foot by 65-foot Greenhouse is a hub of innovation and community impact. Built in 2022, it has already produced thousands of pounds of food, with hundreds donated to the Calgary Food Bank. Featuring cutting-edge turf technology, permanent seating, extended-use lighting and a modern scoreboard, this state-of-the-art facility is more than a sports field—it's a space for connection, teamwork and wellness.This field will serve as the home base for our rugby, soccer and field hockey teams, providing an inspiring venue for training, games and building team spirit. Founder's Wall

WIC's story began over four decades ago with Terry Davies, who founded West Island College in Montreal in 1974. Jack Grant joined as a teacher the following year and became Headmaster in 1979. In 1982, Terry Davies established West Island College Calgary, serving as Headmaster until 1985 when Jack Grant relocated to Calgary to take on the role.As a tribute to their lasting impact, our two main buildings are named after Terry Davies and Jack Grant, as are two of our House Teams, honouring their contributions to WIC's legacy.[Click here to read more about our WIC Story.](https://www.westislandcollege.ab.ca/who-we-are)

Instrument Storage Area

This dedicated space provides students with a secure and convenient place to store their instruments during the school day, ensuring they are protected and ready for rehearsal or practice.

Through These Doors

These doors lead to the Wolves Den and the shared parking lot for the Calgary Farmers' Market, including very limited student parking spaces.On Thursdays and Fridays, Grade 7 - 12 students can head to the Farmers' Market, just a short walk away, to enjoy a variety of lunch options. This weekly tradition offers students delicious meals and encourages them to support local vendors and connect with the broader community.

Student Artwork Display

This hallway comes to life with a rotating collection of student artwork, from intricate clay sculptures to stunning painted pieces. Throughout the year, new creations are added, reflecting the ever-evolving talents and ideas of our students. Their creativity never ceases to amaze, inspiring all who pass through this space.

Hall of Nations Amenities

The Hall of Nations is equipped with microwaves, a toaster and a hot water station for students to use. These amenities provide convenient options for heating up lunches, making snacks, or preparing items purchased from the Café des Loups. Whether students bring meals from home or choose something from the Café, they have everything they need to enjoy a warm, satisfying break.

School Lockers

Every student at WIC is assigned their own locker, either half-sized or full-sized, equipped with a school-supplied lock for security.

Art in the Wolves Den

Showcasing the power and influence of women in sports, this stunning mural was designed and painted by three talented WIC alumnae. Located in the Wolves Den, the artwork celebrates athleticism, empowerment, and the legacy of strong female leaders within our community. The Art of Disagreement

This wall celebrates the importance of respectful dialogue and diverse perspectives. Teachers pose questions on a variety of topics - from politics and current events to House wins and even favourite colours - encouraging students to voice their opinions in a safe and inclusive space.By fostering thoughtful discussions, The Art of Disagreement helps students develop critical thinking, empathy and the ability to engage in meaningful conversations.

Performance Centre

The Performance Centre is a vibrant 200-seat venue that serves as the heart of WIC’s Performing Arts program. This dynamic space hosts drama classes, two annual productions, and other school events, giving students the opportunity to shine on stage and behind the scenes.

Senior Art Room

The Art Room is a hub of creativity where students explore their artistic talents through various mediums, from painting and drawing to ceramics and sculpture. Equipped with a kiln, pottery wheels, and an array of tools and materials, this space provides endless opportunities for self-expression and innovation.Students engage in hands-on projects, art history, and critiques, developing both technical skills and a deeper appreciation for the world of art. Student Success Centre

The Student Success Centre (SSC) at WIC is a cornerstone of our commitment to student well-being. Here, students can access resources and support to help them excel academically, emotionally, and socially.From Academic & Career Advising to counselling and wellness initiatives, the SSC offers a range of services tailored to meet individual needs. Great Hall

The Great Hall is a central gathering space where students come together to collaborate, study and connect. Surrounded by Junior High classrooms and lockers, it’s a favourite spot for both academic and social activities.

Business Office

The Business Office is home to WIC’s operations, including Finance, Human Resources, the School Life Coordinator, and the Head of School. It also houses the infirmary, where students can rest or wait for parents if they’re unwell.As one of the main entrances to the school, this is also where students sign in or out during the day.

Innovation Alley

The Green Screen Room in Innovation Alley is a space where creativity meets technology. Equipped with advanced video production tools, students can film, edit, and produce high-quality projects, bringing their ideas to life through digital storytelling.For more hands-on innovation, head upstairs to explore our unique Robotics Lab. The Fitness Facility in the Wolves Den Hub is designed to support wellness and active lifestyles for students, staff, and faculty. Equipped with a variety of modern fitness equipment, this space is perfect for strength training, cardio, and overall physical fitness.During open hours, the facility is supervised by WIC staff or personal trainers to ensure safety. Students must sign in to use the space and receive approval through the Phys. Ed department or specific classes to access certain equipment.This facility reflects WIC’s commitment to promoting health, well-being, and community connection.

Institute Wall

The Institute Wall showcases WIC’s commitment to hands-on learning and real-world exploration.
