The observatory on the Gojenberg in Hamburg-Bergedorf, an institute of the University of Hamburg, is a cultural monument of international standing, built between 1906 and 1912 in the neo-baroque style by the Hamburg building inspector Albert Erbe (1868-1922) - one of the most modern and largest observatories in Europe. To this day, this culturally and historically significant ensemble of listed buildings (Monument List of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, No. 1089, 1996) and a collection of valuable telescopes has been almost completely preserved. The "Hamburg Observatory Astronomy Park" thus occupies a special position as a "cultural monument of national importance" (2008). Inclusion on the national UNESCO list as a serial transnational application is being sought.
