Production Circuit Boards
In the circuit boards production area, the employees are responsible for supplying internal and external product areas with specialized electronic assemblies: printed circuit boards such as CPU boards, Sensor Boards and similar are produced in time and with highest quality level. The full production line for circuit boards includes the following production process steps with state-of-the-art technologies: SMT (Surface Mounted Technology), THT (Through Hole Technology), manual and automated production testing and conformal coating.
Surface Mount Technology - Lines
Our very modern SMT assembly lines include solder paste printer, solder paste inspection (SPI), pick and place machines and reflow soldering machine. By means of SMT technology, the electronic components are processed with a high packing density, fully automatically and in high speed. With our two SMT lines we can process up to 60,000 components per hour.
Surface Mount Technology - Reflow Soldering and Automatic Optical Inspection
The reflow soldering process can be carried out under protective atmosphere and takes place at around 250 °C. After soldering, the circuit boards are automatically fed into magazines. In the next production step, an automatic optical inspection is carried out to check both the components and the production steps including soldering. In the event of component or other errors, corrections are made immediately by our specially trained employees at the rework stations.
Surface Mount Technology - Storage
Electronical SMT components are delivered on wheels and stored on site in an automatic storage system. We can stock up to 30,000 reels and, if necessary, store them safely at controlled temperature and humidity. The storage system and the production lines together with production planning and control are connected via a component database.
Through Hole Technology
Through Hole Technology is a method using electronic components with connecting wires. These are inserted through holes in the circuit boards and then soldered to the board. This technology is used today especially in power electronics. In the selective soldering machine, after mounting individually the THT components, nitrogen is used to remove the residual oxygen from the solder joints. The quality of the soldering process is again verified using an automatic optical inspection system.
Testing
In production testing, the quality of the entire upstream production process is checked. The preferred test method at Anton Paar is a functional check with a test adapter. For highest performance on prototype boards we can use a state-of-the-art in-circuit tester. Machines such as flying probe tester are used here. For large production batches, the functional test can be carried out fully automatically using a robot test station. Error patterns of defective assemblies can be analyzed by our qualified engineers in order to take appropriate corrective measures.
Flying Probe
The flying probe machine is an in-circuit tester for checking the functionality of single electronic components on circuit boards. The measurement time for an individual component is in the millisecond range. The name of the machine is derived from this speed, because the test needles practically "fly" over the circuit board. This machine is our preferred testing routine for prototypes and first production.
Production Circuit Boards - Coating
In the last process step before delivery, the electronic components are secured and the circuit boards are coated. To secure the components an adhesive protects them from mechanical damage. Coating can keep an aggressive atmosphere or simply moisture away from the valuable finished circuit board in order to ensure longest lifetime. The circuit boards are then ready for delivery.Beside the production area we have a service team for production preparation and control as well as a group for developing our testing and automation fixtures. With around 60 employees, we produce the electronic heart of Anton Paar GmbH's measuring instruments.
Production Cable
This area is dedicated to our cable production where we produce a huge variety of custom tailored cables, harnesses and wires fitted with different types of contacts and connectors. Our well trained and highly capable employees handle prototypes of several unique pieces as well as lot-sizes of several 1,000 pcs/y supported by semi and fully automated machines. The wide span of lot-sizes, available materials and technologies, such as crimping, pinning, soldering and testing, satisfy the needs of a wide customer and application base.
Automated Crimping
This state of the art benchmark machine supports our production of wires with automated cutting, de-isolating, soldering, labelling and crimping (both-sided). The performance of up to 2,500 pcs/hour allows highly cost efficient production of bigger lot-sizes in steady high quality, constantly monitored by the machine itself.
Automated Bonding (COBOT)
This area is dedicated to our Collaborative Robot (CoBot) who supports our production with a flexible automation concept that can be adapted to various customer needs. Our bonding experts are additional trained on automation and programming to allow greater flexibility in daily production. The CoBot is capable to handle smallest basic materials, conduct mechanical preparation-work-steps (such as grouting), as well as the application of various adhesives (1k, 2k, 3k) for bonding or potting purposes.
Clean Room Bonding
This specialized team in our bonding area, is working under clean room conditions to produce highly critical and sensitive components by using a variety of non-silicone adhesives and technologies. Working in this area requires absolute cleanliness and a certain level of concentration, due to the high precision required. As part of our service, we support and consult our customers in defining the right production process including the choice of the right adhesives and technology for the dedicated product.

Overview Assembly
This is a part of the assembly of the product line Lab Density & Concentration. The employees in this business area take care of assembling, testing, adjusting and calibrating our measuring instruments. In addition to technical expertise, the assembly team also needs a sensitive touch, because the assembly and fine-tuning is complex and requires the highest precision. Work starts with the reception of internally distributed goods, followed by component assembly and final assembly in flow production. After the instruments have been adjusted or calibrated, they are pre-packed and prepared for delivery and handed over to the logistics team.
First Workstation, Line
This is where the assembly of the instruments begins. The air pump, for example, is installed and checked at this workstation. But other components such as the counterweight, heat pipe or Peltier elements are also installed here. Before the next step, the installed parts are being tested.
Last Workstation, Line
This is where the initial commissioning takes place. All interfaces are checked again for proper functioning and all cable connections are visually inspected. The cover is then screwed onto the device and the devices are passed on for adjustment.
Turning
Along with milling and grinding, turning is one of the key manufacturing processes in machining technology. In order to meet the high demands on precision and complexity, we have a versatile and modern machine park. This includes precision lathes with integrated grinding options as well as a large number of robot-automated turning and milling centers. This enables us to guarantee continuous production in 24/7 operation. In addition, our state-of-the-art machines enable the finishing of highly complex parts in just one work step. In this way, we guarantee efficient and precise production processes that meet the highest demands.
Milling
In our milling department, we use state-of-the-art production technologies in 3- to 5-axis machining centers to manufacture high-precision and complex parts. By using automation solutions such as pallet, fixture and part automation as well as vacuum clamping systems, we ensure efficient 24/7 operation. This combination of sophisticated machining centers and advanced technology allows us to precisely machine even the most complex geometries and consistently process materials of any machinability to a high standard in series production.
Measurement Technology
This is where production-accompanying inspections and final inspections of our high-precision manufactured parts are carried out, which are required for process control as well as to fulfill documentation obligations and to ensure our high quality standards. An individual measuring and testing procedure is developed for each part based on the specification requirements, which includes automated 3D coordinate, form and optical measuring systems as well as manual testing methods.
Grinding and Finishing
In the area of Grinding and Finishing, we put the "finishing touches" on mechanical components. Fine machining by lapping and honing gives the workpieces a gentle and highly accurate surface finish.
Joining Technology
In Joining Technologies, the individual production components are assembled into complex modules or assemblies using mechanical or thermal processes. Each individual assembly is a high-tech hybrid of manual work and technology.
Laser Sintering
Layer by layer, a powdered material is applied thinly and fused together. In this way, highly complex components can be manufactured, also for external customers.
Laser Technology
Cutting, marking and welding using state-of-the-art lasers.
Surface Technology
In the area of surface technology, both optical and functional surfaces are produced. Ball or glass bead blasting, slide grinding, chuting, mechanical polishing and electropolishing are the methods used. Industrial cleaning, in which unwanted layers or particles are removed, is also essential for final delivery but also for further processing, such as vacuum brazing.
Prototyping
Prototyping combines various technologies such as turning and milling. Small quantities and prototypes are produced in the shortest possible time. Development projects are primarily implemented here. The aim is to find out what can be implemented and how, what is required, how long it will take and what quantities can be produced.

Atrium
There are two atriums in the Technology Center. The atrium you are currently in extends from the roof to the ground level, while the second is located above the event hall and thus extends to the second floor. In addition to meeting rooms, the atriums also contain social areas for employees. The two atriums are important for the building's energy efficiency. They ensure that interior rooms are also supplied with daylight. The atriums, which are partly covered in greenery, are shaded by electrochromic glass, which always allows as much light into the building as necessary.
Event Hall
In addition to state-of-the-art laboratories, offices, meeting and project rooms, the technology center also has a large event hall that can accommodate up to 350 people. The hall is equipped with the latest equipment and can be individually prepared for a wide variety of events. A partition wall makes it possible to divide the room for smaller events.
Glass Production
In Anton Paar's glass production, the measuring sensors are manufactured from the raw material to the finished oscillating U-tube. The oscillating U-tubes are manufactured using the highest level of precision craftsmanship, including thermal processes. Over 10,000 measuring sensors for density measurement are produced in this way every year.
Tempering Furnaces
In the tempering furnace, borosilicate glass is heated to approx. 515-540 °C to relieve stresses. The temperature is held for a while and then slowly cooled down. This process makes the glass more stable, thermally resistant and break-proof.
Fire Workstation
The fire workstation of a glass instrument specialist is the central workplace for the processing and shaping of glass instruments. This is where oscillating U-tubes and other glass components are heated and shaped with great precision using propane-oxygen flames. The intense, precise heating allows the finest adjustments to be made to the glass in order to achieve the exact dimensions and desired shapes.
